St. Patty's Day Fun!

Posted by

Do you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? I seem to have landed at this weird spot in life where I really don’t celebrate it. The thing is, I’m not a kid (I loved celebrating St. Patty’s day as a kid), I don’t stress about wearing green and I’m not a big drinker, so I can’t hit all of those rowdy St. Patty’s day celebrations. I mean, I guess I could go...but I feel like it just wouldn’t be a ton of fun. That being said, I do not want to be a fuddy-duddy about any holidays because I have kids and I want them to have fun and celebrate them all! This year (2019) St. Patrick’s Day is on a Sunday, so we don’t have to worry about the kids going to school, but that also means that we have more time to spend it together, which means mom will definitely be celebrating with them this year.

That also means that we are going to be busy, busy, busy prepping for a fun St. Patty’s Day celebration in our house! How, you ask? Well, let’s see. We are going to be crafting and baking and cooking all day long!

My almost 15 year old daughter is all about wearing green, because she is still concerned about getting pinched. As a matter of fact, my 11 year old son was already asking what green shirt he should wear. Lucky for us, he actually loves the color green so he is prepared for the day. For my daughter though, we just don’t seem to have a lot of green clothes around here, so instead we are going to take some of the cute little felt pieces that are in this kit and sew them onto one of her headbands that she no longer wears. We don’t have to spend money on a new outfit for her to wear for one day, and now she has a cute “new” accessory! We both love the idea!

In case you didn’t remember though, I also have a toddler and if he had the option that kid would never be wearing anything more than a diaper and one sock (don’t ask...that’s just how he rolls), so our St. Patty’s day focus will not be on wearing green for him. So, instead, for him (and the big kids too) we are going to do some St. Patrick’s Day cooking throughout the day! Check out these oh so cute shamrock cutters in the lucky clover cookie set that we are going to use to make a couple of things.

Breakfast - Green eggs and ham my dears! That’s right! This can be done in a couple of ways. Of course, you will need some green food coloring and you can either use it to color some scrambled eggs or you can make your eggs over medium and add the color in. I plan to make over-medium eggs and then use the cutter to cut the eggs into shamrock shapes. Fun, right? You can even cut the ham up in the same shape or even color it green too!

Lunch - Easy, peasy sandwiches! Prepare any kind of sandwich that you want (peanut butter and jelly, ham, turkey, tuna, egg salad...literally any kind of sandwich) and then use the shamrock cutter to cut your sandwich into a fun St. Patty’s themed shape! You can also find a green fruit such as honeydew melons to cut into fun shapes as well!

Dinner - Or should I say second breakfast? Seriously, we love breakfast in this house so for dinner we plan to make some green pancakes (cut into the shape of a shamrock), some more green eggs and ham slices also cut into the shape of a shamrock.

My kids are going to be thrilled this entire day and I am super excited!

Of course, you can also use the Lucky Clover Cookie Kit to make cookies, check out all of the great stuff that this kit comes with:

Includes: sugar cookie mix, icing mix, green sprinkles, shamrock cookie cutter, silicone rolling pin, wooden spoon, and recipe.

Just think about the fun platter of cookies that the kids can snack on at the end of their green food-filled day! Be sure to buy (or make if you are so inclined) some icing to top those delicious cookies off with (plus, it makes the sprinkles stick better!).

After a day filled with fun St. Patty’s celebratory foods, you are going to have some happy kids on your hands.

If I wanted to be a little less wild this St. Patty’s Day, I would definitely stick to just the cookies, but you know me...I like to be versatile and I am determined to get rid of this non-celebrating adult attitude for my kids’ sake. What do you think? Is it too much?

Have fun celebrating, my friends!
