5 Fun Indoor Winter Activities to Combat Those Winter Blues

Posted by

If you live in a state that calls for lots of snow and/or cold this time of year, you know that it can become a drag after a while.  Even the kiddies can get the winter blues and get sick of playing in the cold and snow.

Are you looking for ways to get rid of those winter blues?  Combat them with these 5 winter activities.  And yes, these are indoor activities.

1. Indoor Ice Skating-This is one of our favorites and one I used to do with my preschool classes when it was too cold to go outside.  There are two ways you can try this.  My favorite way is laying out a large slippery tarp on an open floored area.  Spray the tarp all over with shaving cream.  Have the kids take off their shoes and socks.  Be sure to have your kiddies roll up their pants from the ankles.  Let them slip and slide.  It's actually so much fun skating on shaving cream.  If you prefer a cleaner method, use wax paper sheets under their feet and slide across a hard floor or even the carpet.  It's tons of fun and the kiddies will get a kick out of it.

2. Newspaper Snowman-I have never tried this one, but would love to this winter.  All you need is to ball up newspaper and start creating.  To see full details of this cute winter craft, visit Inner Child Fun.

3. Colored Ice and Snow- My preschoolers used to love this.  This is another idea you can try two separate ways:  The first way is to fill a plastic bin with snow and bring indoors.  Fill water bottles with water and add a different food coloring color to each bottle and let the kiddies spray colors into the snow.  It makes amazing colors.  It's fun to do outdoors too.  Another way is to fill muffin tins with water and food coloring.  Freeze them and use them as sculptures or even ice painting onto paper.

4. Snowball Toss Game-This activity is great for the little ones.  Decorate 6 Styrofoam cups to look like snowmen faces and stack them in a pyramid. Use a very soft little ball or large craft pom poms to toss and see how many snowmen they can knock down.

5. Make your Own Fake Snow-This is fun and easy as it's not cold like snow, but it's fun to play with and looks like snow.  All you need is 3 cups of baking soda mixed with a half a cup of hair conditioner.  To see an example of how this might look, visit Huckleberry Love.
