Top Tips for Hosting an Indoor / Outdoor Party
Posted by candi on Jul 8th 2019
Spring has arrived my friends and for me that means it’s time to p-a-r-t-y! Okay, so I’m not exactly a hard core partier, but I do love me some fun garden parties, some indoor intimate parties and everything in between! I mean, what is not to love about springtime parties, am I right? Nice warm air outside, beautiful flowers in bloom, lush green surroundings. Everything seems just about right for celebrations! Yes, my threshold for celebratory reasons, maybe set just a little low, but i am ok with that. You rarely see unhappy people at celebrations, and I love seeing smiles on the faces of my friends and family.
Whether you are simply wanting to celebrate the upcoming warm seasons, or if you have a birthday or other great reason to celebrate (anniversary, graduation, new promotion, etc), it’s time for you to throw a great party as well! My personal favorite type of party to throw in the Spring is a combination indoor / outdoor party. The reason for this is obvious. Springtime weather is not always easy to predict, it’s best to not put all of your eggs in one basket so to speak. Because of this, I like to prepare both my yard and my home for a party and let my guests mingle throughout. If you would like to do the same, here are my top tips for hosting an indoor / outdoor party:
- Choose a Theme - To make the inside of your home flow with your outdoor space, it is best to pick a theme and stick with it. Maintaining a theme throughout the party space makes it feel more cohesive. If you aren’t entirely thrilled with the idea of a themed party, that’s ok. Just keep your decor colors the same and it will create the same effect. I like to make sure that all of my tables have the same table covers and I have matching napkins throughout. If you are looking for some good ideas, I suggest checking out the classy, yet fun, editing style linens that we have here at Sassafrass. I have a couple other favorites as well, and I think that all together they create a great party look!

- Plan your menu - If you have a theme (luau, western, etc) then definitely plan your menu around that theme, but if your decor, is just that, then go hog-wild and plan any menu that you want! It’s important to plan and prepare in advance though, so you can actually enjoy your party instead of spending your time cooking and working.
- Set up in advance. Set your party up in advance and set it up so that it creates the perfect party space. For example, spread the food out throughout a large table or several tables to prevent lines forming, place groups of chairs together facing each other to promote mingling and conversation, have several drink stations so people can top off their drinks indoor or outdoor, keep doors and windows open to help make it feel like one big space instead of two divided spaces.
I have held several indoor / outdoor parties in the past, but I am definitely going to be throwing some of these tips and tricks into my next party planning go round!
Party on, my friends. Party On!
