Okay, I don’t know about you, but I am like the least creative person ever. It’s okay, I’ll own it. Seriously though, I need my hand held at all time when it comes to arts and crafts and *gasp* party planning and when you are a mom, it is hard to admit that you aren’t very good at these things. Honestly, until I became a mom it was no big deal that creativity wasn’t my thing. I mean, my high school art teacher was less than impressed with my skills, but other than that it never came up in life until I had children.
Enter mommyhood and playdates and birthday parties and that’s where my lack of creativity began to really show. But you know what? Pinterest and the internet to the rescue! Seriously, there are so many great ideas out there that are actually pretty easy to accomplish with some good tools and great step by step instructions (thank you bloggers!).
Our family has two birthdays in the next couple of weeks and my sister in law and I are working hard on trying to plan something fun and cute and adorable. Since we are doing a party together we are not going to give it a theme per se, but we decided to go colorful and cute to match with both of their personalities. This means it was the internet once again to the rescue and look what I found! Colorful foods! When your food is colorful there is less need to decorate, am I right?
Check out these fun recipes I found:
Main meal:
- Rainbow Swirl Bread - This bread looks colorful and delicious and would go great for a party where you plan on making sandwiches, as this should taste like a sandwich bread. Imagine the joy and surprise on the guests’ faces when they see their colorful sandwich.
- Bacon Wrapped Pickles - Okay, very little prep work needed here, but I think these would make a great appetizer alongside your colorful sandwiches.
- Tools
- For the bread you can use our superstone covered baker which is great for all types and shapes of breads.
- You can use any of our serving boards to present your fun sandwiches and/or your tasty bacon wrapped pickles!
Desserts:

- Rainbow Tie-Dye Surprise Cake - I love love love this Rainbow Tie-Dye Surprise Cake! I am thinking mini-loaf cakes for both of them celebrating a birthday with their own age inside. How cute would that be?
- Melted Rainbow Cake - This Melted Rainbow Cake is gorgeous and fun all at the same time.
- Watermelon Cheesecake Dip - No, it doesn’t taste like watermelon, but it is colorful enough to make your guests smile while they enjoy snacking on this tasty treat.
- Cheesecake Keto Fat Bombs - Keto is all the rage these days, make sure you have a treat on hand for your keto following guests.
- Edible Unicorn Cookie Dough - Another fun dip for your party food table!
- Rainbow Unicorn Donuts - My daughter doesn’t like cake (weird, right?), so we always make sure to have donuts on hand during celebrations so she isn’t left out. She is going to love these ones.
- Tools
- Mini Loaf Pans - if you want to create personal sized cakes, these mini loaf pans are perfect.
- bread whisk - This bread whisk is great for all of your mixing needs.
Don’t forget the drinks:
(7 Infused Water Recipes by recipesfromapantry)
I’m not a big sweet drink kind of person, so while making colorful drinks, I tend to keep them on the lighter, healthier side. It helps to balance out all of the sweetness of the desserts that we enjoy during parties. These are some of my favorites.
- Fruit Infused Water - I love fruit infused water. It’s very good for you and it doesn’t get much better than the purely natural color that comes from fruit!
- Refreshing Strawberry Iced Tea - Iced tea is great because you can make it as sweet as you want with a little bit of added sugar. Keep the sugar in a dish on the table and your guests can add it if they wish.
- Be sure to check out Pinterest for lots more drink recipes, or if you prefer your drinks to be a little on the sweeter side. Oh, and be sure to follow Sassafrass while you are there!
Decor:
Be sure to check out our Paper Table Linens page for any tablecloths and napkins that you need that can also help add to the color of your party.
So as you can see, it is the internet (and Sassafrass of course) to the rescue for all of my party planning needs. No longer do I have to be ashamed of my lack of artistic skills. This party is no creativity required, because wonderful bloggers have shared theirs with me. I have no doubt that this party will be a success!
