The Perfect Spring Party

Posted by

Is anyone else as excited as I am about the arrival of spring? I am so ready for the cold, dreary days of winter to be just a memory. Don’t get me wrong, I actually enjoy winter, but I am a lover of all of the seasons and by the time one comes to an end, I am more than ready for the next season to begin. Spring to me is the ultimate beginning. It’s like the sun is saying hello for the first time in a long time, the flowers are making an appearance and baby animals are being born. It’s about this time of year that I start to feel a little more social too, I no longer want to be indoors hibernating my way through winter.

I was at a birthday party for my in-laws last night. And no, that wasn’t a typo, my husband’s family celebrates 4 different birthdays on the same day, his father, brother, nephew and uncle were all born on the same day. Anyway, as I was saying, I was at a birthday party last night and it was just a bunch of people crammed into my sister in law’s house. It was fun to visit family, but I just kept thinking about how nice it would have been if they would have turned that party into a garden-type outdoor party instead of being stuck inside with everyone trying to fit on couches and fold out chairs. The party itself was nice, but most everyone was on edge because of how crowded it was and how noisy it was in the house. An outdoor party would solve all of those issues.

We also have several birthdays in our family coming up next month (mine included), and the party planning is now on me. I am most definitely planning a garden party this time and I am so excited! Because I am so very ready to get this Spring started right, I am planning to base my garden party around brunch!

With this being a brunch party, an amazing menu is imperative. I am bored with stews, chili and all of the other winter meals that we have been eating for months, so I plan to make some delicious spring-like brunch foods. Foods that aren’t too heavy, that are flavorful and bright. I’m thinking a quiche, with fruits and lots of tasty drinks smoothies and juice for the kids, iced tea for everyone and of course, we have to have mimosas on the menu.

Here are a couple of the recipes I am planning to prepare:

Almost more important than the main dish and beverages though, in my opinion, are the appetizers. For a garden-style party, I think a fruit platter and a meat and cheese plate are must-haves! You simply cannot have a party without them. I may be biased though, because I absolutely love these Cheese Boards that we have here at Sassafrass and I like to find any excuse I can to show them off to guests. I mean, who wouldn’t want to show them off?

These ones are my favorites:

  • rectangular baselina board - this beautiful board looks terrific on your buffet or coffee table when serving light appetizers. the cool marble surface prevents your cheeses from over-softening. also use the board to serve crackers, smaller bread loaves or fruits. This one is my favorite!
  • round baselina and mango wood board - this beautiful board is sensational for serving breads, cheeses or pizza. the mango wood is a sustainable wood due to the demand for mangos and the fact that mango trees are designed to be cut down when they stop producing fruit. it is also a beautiful, densely-grained hardwood. paired with the dark marble surface, it is not only striking, but a practical piece that every host or hostess should have in their kitchen.
  • round marble and mango wood board - our bread and cheese boards add an artisan aesthetic to your serving table. the smooth mango wood adopts a weathered patina over time and the marble stands in cool contrast to the warm texture of the wood.

*Care instructions for all boards: hand wash only. lightly oil the wood to preserve the wood.
