Leaf Art Rubbings

Posted by

The leaves are gracefully dropping to the ground which means beautiful shapes and colors of autumn. Have you ever used a real leaf for leaf rubbings before?  The outcome is awesome if done correctly.

Here is what you need:

  • Leaves of all different shapes and sizes
  • Fall colored crayons (reds, oranges, browns,)
  • Colored Pencils and/or Crayons
  • Tape
  • Construction Paper

After you go on your nature walk together and picked out your leaves, begin sorting them out on the table by sizes and colors or whichever you prefer.  On a nice open area on the table, set your leaf in place. You can tape down the back slightly. Then place your construction paper over top of the leaf.  Again, tape corners of paper so that it doesn't slide around. It gets frustrating when the paper and leaf slides around when trying to keep it all still.

Now the kiddies can take their crayons and start rubbing over the paper in the direction of the leaf.  You should start to see the shape of the leaf take place along with ridges, veins, etc.  It's almost like magic and a lot of fun.  Be sure to tape everything down.  When the rubbings are complete.  Hang on the fridge or wall to show off awesome fall creations!
