Five Fun Winter Activities for Kids

Posted by

If you live in a state that calls for lots of snow and/or cold this time of year, you know that it can become a drag after a while. Even the kiddies can get the winter blues and get sick of playing in the cold and snow. Are you looking for ways to get rid of those winter blues? Combat them with these 5 (mostly) indoor winter activities.

1. Paper Mache' Snowman - This idea by Inner Child looks like so much fun! All you need is to ball up newspaper, some tape, and start creating.

2. Snow Volcano Experiment - this science experiment from Growing A Jeweled Rose only requires:

  • A cup or plastic bottle
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Food coloring

and of course, Snow. What a fun way to add some color to your winter wonderland!

3. Peanut Butter Balls - This oat & peanut butter recipe by Twin Mom Refreshed for kids and toddlers is very simple to make and is great for a quick healthy snack.

4. Anna Olson's Oven-Baked S'mores -  Anna Olson from the Food Network shares her recipe for Oven-Baked S'Mores with Weekend At The Cottage: this recipe is so easy to make with the kids. It takes about a half hour to make and the troops will love it!

You and your assistant chef and/or lab partner will need the proper tools: our Cookie Baking Kit, with its measuring cups and spoons, the Deluxe Cookie Set (complete with apron and cookie sheet), or the Tool Kit with Herb Pot are must haves for kids interested in making desserts and little pastries.

5. Indoor Bowling -This activity is great for the little ones. Our Sassafras® Owl Bowling Pin Set or our Frog Bowling Pin Set will entertain them for hours--  just clear away the furniture and let 'er rip!

We know it's tough to keep the little ones entertained without the constant distraction of videos and loud video games, so we hope these ideas will help.
