BBQ Pizza Recipes for A Great Memorial Day BBQ

What are your plans for Memorial Day? Are you planning a BBQ? I just love a good Memorial Day BBQ. It’s such a great way to welcome summer, don’t you think?

The thing about BBQs though is that I am no longer cool with just burgers and dogs, if I am going to take the time to fire up the grill, I want to serve my loved ones something amazing. For me that means it’s time to break out my favorite BBQ pizza recipes for a great Memorial Day BBQ.

The very first time I cooked pizza on the grill it was a take and bake pizza that I wasn’t entirely excited about (once you have homemade pizza, store or restaurant bought just isn’t the same). Because I was feeling especially lazy that day we decided to just pick up a pizza. Once we got home I found myself staring at the grill and realizing that our pizza would fit perfectly on it. Why not try to cook it like that, I thought?

BOY am I glad I did! That boring, bland pizza got kicked up a notch by that smoky grilled flavor. After that I could not wait to try some delicious, homemade pizza on the grill. I was not disappointed. Since then (which was years ago, btw), I have only made homemade pizza on the grill and I have yet to make one that I don’t love.

If you are ready to make some seriously amazing BBQ pizza for the upcoming holidays, I am going to help. Here are some of my favorite tools, tricks and recipes.

Use Fresh Ingredients

I don’t really consider myself a foodie or a food snob, but I do know that fresh is best! Fresh ingredients make all the difference in the taste of your pizza and that includes pizza that is made on the grill. The delicious smoky flavor only shows up better in those fresh ingredients.

Find the Best Recipes

Okay, we all have our own tastes and preferences, I’ll admit that. As a matter of fact, I have 5 people in my family, all of which have their own pizza preferences. That being said, the following pizza recipes have been a hit with every member of my family and each of these pizzas have kept them talking about pizza night for several days afterwards.

Traditional Pizza crust- When I talk about homemade pizza, I am talking about truly homemade pizza. That means that your pizza crust is homemade too. No store bought stuff for the best recipes. This recipe is a great one!

Pepperoni Pizza - Everyone loves pepperoni, right? A simple pizza recipe like this is great to make if you aren’t quite sure about your guests tastes or if you are like me and have a picky teenaged boy.

Sun Dried Tomato and Arugula - There is just something about sun dried tomatoes in the summer for me. They just have a taste that reminds me of all things summer. This sun dried tomato and arugula topped pizza is absolutely packed full of a flavor and is always a hit when I make it.

Swiss Chard and Bacon Pizza - I love making pizza with ingredients that are a little different from the typical, and this Swiss chard and bacon pizza was a delicious choice!

We also have a variety of other fun and tasty pizza stone recipes for you to choose from.

Use the Right Tools

Sure, you could put your pizza directly on the grill, if you want to make a mess and possibly burn your fingers in the process. But if you really want a delicious BBQ pizza, using a pizza stone for your barbeque pizza can literally make all the difference in how your pizza turns out. I may be biased, but this pizza stone is my absolute favorite:

Superstone® BBQ Pizza Stone-- with it's natural grooved surface for even heat distribution and a fire-proof finish, the BBQ Pizza Stone is perfect for making pizza in any conventional or convection oven, or on the grill, making it pizza time in the summertime or anytime!

Pizza Stone Accessories

If you need pizza accessories for cutting and serving your pies, look no further–– Sassafras® has a wood-handled pizza cutter and a silicone-handled pizza cutter for all your baking needs.

What pizza will you be making this Memorial Day? Whatever you do, have fun and stay safe!
