Baking Treats with Your Preschoolers

Time does truly feel like it goes very quickly, especially when there are kids in the home.

With another year, means another year older: kids grow up fast, and time with them should be cherished and treasured, even with something as simple and as wonderful as baking together.

It's not just all about baking and the recipes you try together, it's about togetherness and another activity you can do together as a family.

It doesn't have to be anything fancy or over-the-top, even a simple baking recipe like bread or cookies, brownies, etc., is what makes the experience truly special. All of the other little things included like the science and education behind baking is just a perk. 

With that in mind, here are some fun and tasty recipes that are kid friendly, for kids from 6 to 8 years old.

Recipes

1. This Blondies Recipe from America's Test Kitchen is great for beginners and kids new to helping in the kitchen. According to Sugar Spun Run, blondies "Blondies are occasionally referred to as “blonde brownies”. They are made without cocoa powder and aspire to a rich vanilla flavor rather than a deep chocolate one."

They have their own blondie recipe too, and they suggest you add chocolate morsels, chopped nuts or whatever you think would be taste good in a brownie.

2. Brigeeski has a recipe called The Best Kid-Friendly Banana Bread, and from the photos we think they might be right! What could more rewarding for a child than to snack on bread that they helped make. All of that banana mashing, mixing and stirring should keep your kids occupied for an hour at least.

3. This Princess Toast recipe by Mess for Less is so simple, and yet so stimulating for young minds. Imagine that bread is the canvas and all they have to add is whipped cream cheese, sprinkles, and food coloring and your kids have a piece of art that they can eat!
