Fun with Felt

Posted by

Remember when you were younger how popular felt was for storyboards? This activity is actually still pretty popular, especially in the preschool years. It's a great way to teach language development. How? Children can participate and engage in the story by telling their own story and by moving the figures around.  It can also be a fun learning station idea during free play indoors.

Fun with felt not only increases creativity and language development, it is also a great alternative to all things digital like iPods, iPads, Kindles, and more! As we know, children of today's eyes are pretty much glued to the screen. This can be combated through creative learning and what better than with felt?

Need some ideas?

How about shape flowers! Cut out all different shapes of felt including stems and leaves. They can build their own flower!

Crayon color matching. You can cut out a bunch of felt colors that match crayon colors. They can sort these ideas with real crayons.

The ideas are endless. You can even make your own felt board for easier felt play, specifically for toddlers. One of my favorite felt ideas from the past was "Way up High in the Apple Tree." I would have kiddies take turns removing an apple from the felt board. They loved it!  This also worked great with the "Three Little Pigs."

You can really get your creative juices flowing by checking out ideas on Pinterest. This is where I get a lot of my inspiration.

What was your first story experience with felt?
